These Fandoms Will Be the Death of Me.

So . . .

This is a little bit of a late update from what I wanted, but I have to have my fangirl moment over The Avengers! I was able to go to the midnight premire, and WOW!! The Avengers was better than I was expecting, and I was expecting a lot. If you haven’t seen this flick yet, I would highly suggest it. The story line was fantastic, the characters and their interactions with each other were spectacular (and often very humorous), the script and lines were well mastered and versed, and the movie still held a level of seriousness that the whole plot needed. I was very pleased with the movie as a whole. I will be seeing it again Friday. I am dragging the parental units to it.

One of the best parts of the premier was I was able to even dress up. Talk about a geek out moment, right? ;) I went as an original Avengers character: Shield agent Sharon Carter. I feel like my costume was pretty authentic for what I had to work with. I put it all together in one day.

Me as Sharon and Laxer bro as Captain America.

My laxer bro and his brother also went. Laxer bro was Captain America, and his brother was another shield agent.

Another fandom which has been absolutely killing me is still, you guessed it, The Legend of Korra. I can’t decide if I’m pro Borra or pro Makorra. I love the characters both so much when paired with her! Augh! I can’t wait to see what Nickelodeon pulls of with this whole series. And Amon . . . terrifying! It is absolutely brilliant. :D

By the by, I guess I should add that the school year went pretty well. I still haven’t had much time to catch my breath, however. But I can’t say I’m complaining. I ended up getting through my finals, so that’s a relief. For my sign class I ended up doing “Sleeping Beauty.” Maybe I’ll post it to my youtube sometime so you all can check it out.

Well. I’m off to stop my youngest nephew from banging my Lax sticks on the walls. He is so going to be my little laxer buddy.:D Ah, I do also expect congratulations. It just so happens I will be an aunt of four come this winter.

A Bit of a Fangirl

As many of you know, The Legend of Korra is a huge thing with me. I’ve been all over that fandom, and I’m proud to say I’m part of it. Recently, one of my friends shared something pretty epic with me concerning Nickelodeon’s new show.

There was a pre-release of the first two episodes on The Legend of Korra‘s home internet page, and unfortunately, I just so happened to miss it. D: :( ( BUT, thanks to this friend, she discovered a link on Tumblr and shared it with me.

The link is to a free download for the first two episodes of The Legend of Korra! I was so thrilled, I downloaded them immediately. I’ve watched the episodes at least three times by now. So, I just wanted to give a shout-out to her and say thanks again! I also thought I could share the link for others who missed the chance to see the show when it was released online. The download is through iTunes.

The Legend of Korra: episode 1 & 2

Enjoy!

P.s. The recipes have been updated, and I added a new dessert!

I Like Surprises

WOW.

A few months ago, at the beginning of Spring Semester, the English Department was hosting a writing contest. My friends who I work with were all pretty excited about it, and convinced me to submit something. Of course, I only found out about it (because I’m smart and pay attention like that) the last day to submit for the contest.

However, I thought it would be something fun to do for kicks and giggles, positive I wouldn’t win, yet knowing I could say I entered anyway. I scrambled for the rest of the afternoon to try to piece something together. Finally, I decided I would enter in the fiction portion. Not knowing what else to do, I took a stab at editing “Spring Equinox.” Months passed, and I never heard more about the contest.

Until just the other night.

I received a fat letter from my school from the English Department. I was worried there was something wrong with some of my credits or some other calamity. That, or it was just useless information promoting something going on at campus. After opening the letter, I had to read the first line three different times before I finally understood the meaning.

I had won second place in the writing contest. I let out a surprised, yet happy, yelp. My dad nearly jumped out of his chair thinking something was wrong, but when I explained the news, my parents both couldn’t ask enough questions. (Ha! That sounds so cheesy! But I love my parents, and living at home always has interesting perks. :P ) Most of the questions were answered in the rest of the letter. I just couldn’t believe that I had been chosen as any sort of winner because of how slap-dash my whole submitting process had been.

I am very excited over the concept. It means there is actually hope for me as a writer and that I don’t completely suck. I’m also excited to stamp this baby on a resume. Did I mention there is an award ceremony to attend and that I also earn prize money? Yeah. I am pleasantly surprised! The newest and most updated version of “Spring Equinox” is also up on Sw33tAxion.

On the flip side of things, I have narrowed down the two stories I would like to sign for my final project in ASL. However, I need a vote! And the choices are:

The Swan Princess

“The Frog Prince” by Robin McKinley

So cast your vote, because I am a horrible decision maker! Unless anyone else has any ideas they would like to throw into the fray?

Busy as a Bee

WHOOO HOOO!!!

I have Spring Fever!

Spring is finally here, and I couldn’t be more excited! It feels like it has been way too long. However, I feel like I’m still just as busy as ever. Busy like a bee.

Because I am a laxer, it’s rare that I have much free time between my schooling, work, and practices and games. I have been super busy with Lax lately because we’ve had a lot of games. it’s my first year actually playing the sport, though I have followed it. We haven’t won any games yet. Most of our girls have never even played before. I am included in that list.

Our first game was played in the middle of a snow storm. Yet, that did not deter me! I still had so much fun, that by the end of the game I had not realized my legs had gone numb until I touched them and realized I couldn’t feel my hands on my thighs. Luckily, my Laxer Bro was with me, and he let me use his sweats. Comfy! Plus, it was fun having him there. Laxer Bro played in high school and for his first year of college, and even though he played as a defender, it was great to hear him try to yell out ideas for me–of which I very often did not understand. I had a really fun time playing low attack during that game, it’s quite different from defense.

So far, I’ve played both the positions of low attack and defender. For being a first year player, I feel like I did a pretty good job in both positions. As attack, I took a blow to the chest from the lax ball, just so the girl on the other team wouldn’t get it. mind you, those balls are NOT soft.

As a defender, I finally figured out how it worked defending and not attacking towards the end of the game, and game off with some pretty good blocks. I also came off with a battle bruise. I was proud. During my last game as defender, I also dodged out of the way of a girls stick. She kept sticking it in my face after the whistle was blown for a foul, and it was really ticking me off! I was playing D, and the ball was still in their possession. The ball would not have been thrown towards me, so there was no reason to push her stick in my face. So, out of spite, and as defender, when the whistle blew I ducked under her stick and charged the girl who the ball was passed to. The best part was I made that same girl miss her shot. The look on ‘miss-stick-in-my-face’s'  expression after was priceless. So, as you can see, I’ve been having a lot of fun.

I have also been way stoked over Lax lately because of this:

WOOT! I am so going with my Laxer girls and Laxer Bro to see this!!

And ending on that epic note . . .

School has also kept me way busy. Trying to get through math is a nightmare. Who else feels my pain? But sign language has been fantastic. I’m getting ready to do my final. For it, we have to pick a fairy tale and sign it. It also can’t be a simple fairy tale, like The Three Little Pigs, either. I honestly am not sure what to choose. My thoughts are that I could pick from these fairy tales to sign:

  •  A short story fairy tale by Robin McKinley (like The Princess and the Frog–the only problem is someone else in my class is already doing a version of that fairy tale. Any suggestions on others?)
  • Cinderella (I am worried this one may be considered too simple)
  • Sleeping Beauty (I am worried this one may be too long)
  • Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs (FETCH! Do you know how many characters that is to try to portray? This could be way too hard)
  •  A Brother’s Grimm tale (All awesome, but which one!?)
  •  The Swan Princess (I’m not talking about the happy ending NEST version, just fyi)

Basically, I am struggling with what I should choose to sign, and if you can’t tell, I’m hoping to hear some feedback on what you all think would be a cool story. The story cant’ be over 10 minutes in length, and it can’t be under 5 minutes.

In other news, I’ve discovered a lot of new recipes to make, and I need to get them up on my blog. So for those of you who follow my blog and have joined my forum, keep a look-out for those recipes. I am also eager to try out even more recipes, so if any of you have some you think are good, feel free to share them! Also, per your consent, I would love to add your recipes to mine and my blog. Hey, you would be Sw33tAxion famous!

Another cool note is that recently I was commissioned to do a piece of art. This art would be depicting the Goddess Artemis. When the final product is up, I plan to share it on my DA. hopefully, it will be done soon!

Well, that’s all from me, folks! At least from now. I look forward to hearing suggestions and recipes and other comments from you all!

Lax and the New Year

Well, I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas! The Christmas I got to spend with my family rocked. I ended up making my nephews Harry Potter wands because they love Harry Potter. :P They take after their aunt. They ended up loving the wands. We had a wizard’s duel after opening presents. It was awesome. XD All of the family festivities were spectacular, too.

One of the things that I am so psyched about this year is that I got my girls Lacrosse stick.

BOOSH!!

It’s the Brine Pixie, for those who care.

So, some of you may be wondering why I asked for a Lacrosse stick. The answer: I’m going to be on the team this year! I’ll be a middie (mid fielder), and I’m number 7. I’m way excited. (In case you can’t tell.) But I’m also nervous. I’ve never played an actual game of lax in my life. However, I thoroughly enjoy watching it and tossing around. I’ve apparently got a pretty good throw. Now I just need to work on everything else . . . I thought I would give Lax a shot though. I wouldn’t call myself a very sporty person, mostly because I am no good at sports, but Lax is one of the few sports I’ve found I can actually play.

I’ve been practicing a ton with my friends and on my own lately. I’ve loved every minute of it so far. One of my dear friends actually taught me how to string my stick and made it so that the release point in my net will be different and match my throw better. I’ve already noticed the difference. :) I can’t wait to learn more and actually start playing. Basically, be prepared to hear about a lot of Lax stuff from me from now on. Of course, I’ll post all my game updates as well. I’ll probably get clobbered, but it’ll be worth it, right?

At least I’ll have stories to tell.

But who’s excited for the New Year? I know I am! I’ve got a lot planned for New Year’s Eve. XD I can’t wait! I’ll be out with a laxer bro of mine to go bowling. I’m going to make a fool of myself. HA!

When midnight rolls around, I also get to set off floating lanterns. I can hardly wait! I’ve gotta give a shout-out to the awesome Winward’s who gave us the lanterns in the first place. :) I’m incredibly giddy over the idea of being able to light them off. I’m a major Tangled fan.

Well, Happy New Year!

That Christmas Feeling

Wow! It’s been a long time, once again, now hasn’t it? I promise to do better about that.

Well, it’s finally Christmas break for me! And boy, has is been crazy so far! My local Institute did a huge service project and provided a Christmas for 18 families in the are who were in need of a Christmas. It was absolutely wonderful! I even donated a few art pictures. It was really cool to see everyone getting so involved. I’ve never seen so many people at the Institute before, and it was totally worth it. So many people came to help make hats, quilts, scarves, paint doll houses, make ornaments, donate clothes, and all sorts of other things. It was fantastic! I particularly enjoyed seeing the men helping to make a quilt.

Two of my  very dear friends have also gotten me involved with another Christmas giving project. It’s pretty awesome! I’ll let you check it out: EcoFirst Christmas Project. They work for the company, but I think it’s a really neat thing to have happening here that’s local again.

All of this just got me thinking about how cool the Christmas spirit is. I wish it could stay around all year. I think that’s going to be my new years goal, to try to always be this happy and helpful during the rest of the year.

But I wanna hear from you guys! What are you up to for the break? Anything spectacular? I know I have a few fun plans. I’m off to St. George to play for the weekend, for starters. I also have a few other Christmas projects to work on. I’m making my nephews Harry Potter wands. Yep. You read right. Harry Potter wands. I have taught my nephews well. :D So well that they know a large majority of the spells and love to watch the shows with me. And the oldest is only five! HA!

Well, until next time. Hopefully it won’t take me so long this time.

2012 Cartoons Can’t Get Here Fast Enough

I’m pretty sure most of you have seen that trailer by now. I know I’ve been Tumblring about it for quite a while, but I just had to share it here as well! I’ve been fangirling like mad! I can’t wait for Nickelodeon to release the series! Woot! The trailer has me excited for SO many different reasons! I could go on and on about it, but I’m sure it’s just better if I let ya’ll see for yourself instead.

Anyway, for those who haven’t seen the trailer, hope you enjoy!

Goodbye . . . Harry Potter . . .

Alright, not goodbye. NEVER goodbye to Harry Potter from me. I just say that because the last half of the last Harry Potter movie is coming out, and frankly, that’s depressing.

Because it is the last time Harry Potter will be in theaters, my friends and I decided to go all out with it. We bought tickets to the midnight showing, we’re going, and we’re dressing up. Not just wearing a black cloak or something little like that dressing up, but we’re going all out uniforms, wands, and so forth.

For the past few weeks, my friends and I have gone around to the local DI and Wal-Mart and any other local store to gather supplies to create our costumes. We’ve even hand-made our own wands out of paper and decorated them to the point where they even look like real wood/wands. I’ve even learned how to knit a scarf, Gryffindor colors. That’s the house I belong to, after all.

We’ve gotten so into it that we really did all get together and determine which houses we really belonged to, not just which houses we liked best. A lot of that came from this online test: http://www.personalitylab.org/tests/ccq_hogwarts.htm I came out as Gryffindor. Must say, I’m pretty happy about that. :D

I honestly can hardly wait for the midnight screening. I am SO EXCITED to go! I’m pretty sure I’ll need a giant box of Kleenexes though, and a pillow to hug and cry into. Yeah . . . I’m pretty sure I’m going to cry. However, it will be worth it, and it will be fun. I’ll be sure to take pictures of all the crazy things we do!

On an unrelated note, I’ve posted my recipe version of Flan on the forum, for any of those who want to check it out.

Hike This Up

Hey everyone!

Been a while, eh? The summer months get pretty busy for me, so I’m afraid that even this blog post won’t be very long, but I have been wanting to put up quite a few pictures for a while now.

I’ve been hiking a lot this summer, and I thought I would add a little album for everyone to look through to see the hike I went on. It was one I hadn’t ever been to before, so I was enjoying myself! It was to a waterfall, and boy was it pretty! Cold, too. I didn’t put all of the pictures I took up on here, many of them will go to my DA account. I’ve been pretty photo happy lately, but I hope you all enjoy!

On another note, don’t forget to check out the forum and my tumblr! There have been many on-goings there as of late. Also, I’ll hopefully be getting my comic up soon, so keep a lookout for that!

Ren Fair

Figured it was about time I threw in an update on what happened at the Ren fair and what I chose to be. I never mentioned. Go figure.

Well, I went to the Renaissance Fair the day the world was supposed to end, so I guess that’s a pretty good way to spend your last day on earth. It was really nice, warm, sunny weather for the day the world was ending, so I decided to dress up as a fairy since that costume was lighter than the others. There you go. Mystery revealed as to what I decided to go as.

Once we finally got there (yes, I did go with friends), the first interesting thing that happened was that I got knighted as a lady of the realm. Cool, eh? I got a shell from it too because the little king liked me so much he told me I could pick something from his treasure box. Whoot!

After that, I discovered something interesting that sent my heart pounding at 2oo mph:

Angel Statue

DON’T BLINK. DON’T EVEN BLINK. BLINK, AND YOU’RE DEAD.

Well, since that was the case, I figured I’d better have a staring contest with the bloody thing to save everyone there who wasn’t looking at it:

I won that one. Yeh.

Over all, that was probably the most terrifying experience of my life thus far.

Once the weeping angel was defeated, we moved on to the Jousting! That was also very exciting. It was the first time I’d ever seen one of the jousters actually get hit off of their horse. I also got a rose from a knight. That made me feel special.

Before we left the fair, we also decided to indulge ourselves in buying cool things. That night, we watched Doctor Who, and the world was good.
